A pilgrimage to Nibbana : Buddhist simile-The lost wallet
The lost wallet
A pilgrimage to Nibbana : Buddhist simile |
A beautiful morning
It was a beautiful sunny morning.
Rays of sun enters the earth through blue clouds. These golden rays blew life
to earth. The flower buds blossom to pretty flowers. Little birds are chirping
making the heavenly harmony.
A nice cool breeze comes through
my window and whisper to my ears. I can hear the voice of my Father ‘it is the
time to wake up’. My room is filled up with the fragrance of flowers. Beyond
that my mind caught the smell of the tastiest food of my mother. I can hear the
sound of my favorite tea getting ready by my mother.
It is the time to go to work. I
left my home and got in to the bus. It was a 1 hour bus ride. Went to my
working place. The day pass by peacefully. I did my duties and start heading
back home. When I have to pay for my bus ride I look for my wallet.
I suddenly realize I have lost my
wallet. Might be I have lost it in the morning on my way to work. I felt sad
and disturbed. My mind is not at ease any more. I need to go through all the
hazel and pain to recover the valuables I have lost. And among them there can
be things which cannot be recovered.
Wallet lost in road
Dear friends, until I realize I
lost my wallet my mind was at ease. From the moment I realize I have lost it I
start panicking, feel disturbed and feel sad.
Loss of awareness of good and bad actions
The same holds with our good and
bad action in life. As long as you are not aware of your action your mind is at
ease. If you are not aware of your action you have no sense of good from bad,
right from wrong. Perhaps you will continue your non meritorious bad actions
continuously. By practicing wrong actions for a long time period it eventually
become a habit and ultimately take those for grant. You will harm not only
yourself but also the people around you which cannot be recovered. It will
results unhappiness in life. Therefore it is very important for us to be acquaint
with our actions.
Mindfulness and Morality
From the dawn of the day until
you go to sleep it is important to cultivate three great moralities in life. These
include
Right speech: it is your
effort to refraining from falsehood, slandering, harsh words and frivolous
talk.
Right action: It is your
effort to refraining from killing, stealing and sexual misconduct
Right livelihood: it is
your effort to refraining from five kind of trades (trading in arms, human
beings, animal for slaughter, intoxicating drugs and drinks and poison)
Mindfulness in body, feelings,
thoughts and mind-objectives help you to developed morality (sila) in life.
Right speech, action and livelihood needed to be cultivated through mindfulness
and talented right effort.
Morality for the ultimate happiness
The regulated behavior is
essential for us who treads the path to Nibbana.
Without killing nor causing
injuries and pain to any living creature we cultivate kindness and compassion towards
all living being. Even towards the tiniest creature who crawls at our feet.
Refraining from stealing we will
be upright and honest in all our dealings.
Abstaining from false speech and
harsh words you will be truthful and kind.
By avoiding pernicious drinks
which leads to heedlessness you will be sober and diligence.
Violation of these morals will
obstruct your path to ultimate happiness of Nibbana.
Spiritual pilgrimage of Nibbana
Disciplining of words, actions and
livelihood will advance a step of your spiritual pilgrimage. Through these
moralities you will develop a firm footing on the grounds which will embark
your journey to renounce craving and seek the worldly pleasure.
……..May noble triple gem bless
you…….
